Stage Play Script Writing Contest

Washington-Stage-TheatreWashington Stage Theatre of La Porte is now accepting original scripts to be entered in a creative stage play writing contest. The Grand prize will be the production of the winning play at the Washington Stage Theatre, 111 Roosevelt St. in La Porte during the 2014 season.

 There will be two divisions: student and adult. (One winner in each division.)The play >may be a comedy, musical, or drama of a maximum of 90 minutes duration, and must be a family friendly theme. Production must be suitable for simple sets, props, and lighting in a black box theatre. A maximum of 12 actors or actresses and a minimum of 5 is suggested, but not required. Any music involved must be original and controlled by the author. Deadline for submissions is March 1, 2014.

The student category will be open to any Midwestern area student up to 21 years of age, enrolled in any accredited school program. Up to three students may collaborate on the script. All writers must meet the age requirements.

The adult category will be open to any Midwestern area resident. The decision to produce the winning play (or plays) will be the sole decision of Washington Stage Theatre. Submissions may be delivered electronically, emailed to quacken@verizon.net, delivered by U.S. mail, or hand delivered. Any and all work submitted shall remain the copy-written work of the author (or authors). Each entry will be reviewed and critiqued. There is no fee for submission. All entries will be acknowledged, and winners will be announced by March 30, 2014.

Successful writers will be paid a royalty for each performance, and will receive 4 complimentary tickets to a production, to see their play performed on stage.
