The Flashback 1970's Exhibit at the Southern Shore Art Association opened on First Friday August 1, with a great splash. The exhibit is on display through August 31st. We are announcing our upcoming "FLASHBACK SUNDAY", August 24th. During Gallery hours, 12-5pm (CST), several of the exhibiting artists will be present for conversation and discussion. You can pick their brains and find out how they conceived their creations. Also, test your 1970's knowledge with trivia posted throughout the exhibit. Light refreshments will be served.
Stop by on Sunday the 24th for a great time. At 1:45pm, "CAPTAIN AMBIVALENT", from Valparaiso, will take the stage. He is a self-professed nerd rock singer-songwriter and a one man band, performing solo in the proud tradition of "They Might Be Giants", "Weird Al Yankovic", "BareNakedLadies", and "Jonathan Coulton". He will create some vintage inspiration of his own, with his accordion and creative original music.
The "FLASHBACK: THE 1970's" exhibit brings a variety of artists from Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois together with a vision inspired by the 1970's. To add interest we have several pieces of contemporaneous 1970's works of art on loan for the exhibit. This will allow the audience to compare the eyes of the artists from the 70's with the interpretation of the artists of today. The 1970's were a unique microcosm of culture, host to insight for our current artists. It is an exhibit in a diversity of mediums and will cover the cultural highs and lows of that decade.
