Southern Shore Art Association Offers 2015 Spring Art Classes

Southern-Shore-Art-AssociationSouthern Shore Art Association in Michigan City is offering new classes beginning in March, to add to the roster of art classes already being available in various media. “SSAA is offering some interesting new classes this season, which broadens our educational base to regional artists”, said Anneke Dekker, president of the Board of Directors.

“Beginner and Intermediate Watercolor” led byJulia Holmaas, watercolor artist, who has won numerous awards for her work. She will be teaching a 2-day watercolor workshop on March 14 and 21 from 9.30am-4pm.

“Sketching with Leonardo” led by Matt Kubik, internationally trained artist, architect, designer and educator will be teaching a drawing class based on Leonardo Da Vinci’s techniques. This course is open to both the beginner who wishes to learn sketching and observation fundamentals, and the accomplished artist who wishes to develop a sketch portfolio in the style of Leonardo da Vinci. Classes will be held on Tuesdays April 7 – 28 from 6-8pm

“Photographing your Artwork” led by Anneke Dekker-Olthof (ANKO), fashion designer, graphic designer, photographer and acrylic artist, will be teaching a 2-hour workshop on April 15, 2-4pm, explaining the basic principles of getting good photos of your artwork with just a camera.

She will also be teaching a 3-hour-Workshop: “Experimenting and Special Effects in Acrylics I” for those acrylic artists that are interested in learning to achieve unique special effects and textures in their work. Workshop will be held on 2 dates, April 23, 1-4pm or May 2, 9am-12pm.

“Oil Painting Verdaccio” led by Kei J Contantinov, MFA, Painter, Novelist and Teacher will be teaching a 4-day workshop (April 17-20, 1-4pm daily). In this workshop you will learn to layer transparent colors over an opaque, monochromatic underpainting, to achieve glowing optical mixes using a limited palette.

She will also be teaching a 4-day workshop (May 1-4, 1-4pm daily) “Printmaking Technique: Linoleum Block” in which you will explore the dynamic process of relief printmaking, using small press techniques for accurate color registration.

All classes will be held in the upstairs classroom 18 above the Gallery, 724 Franklin, Michigan City.
