South Shore Line Back on Track Tuesday January 7th

NICTD-logoSouth Shore will resume regularly scheduled train service between Michigan City and Chicago beginning Tuesday, January 7 with westbound Train 102, scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 5:43 a.m.

Please allow extra time in your travel plans since trains may encounter weather related speed restrictions. Between South Bend and Michigan City we plan to temporarily bus passengers beginning January 7. Due to low passenger volumes we will not bus from Hudson Lake. Hudson Lake passengers are advised to drive to Carroll Ave. Station in Michigan City.

The South Shore is an electric railroad and our overhead power system between South Bend and Michigan City is old and subject to failure during extreme temperatures. An unexpected dewirement in a remote location could hamper efforts to provide alternate transportation for those affected passengers and to restore continuous service.

NICTD apologizes for any inconvenience associated with these weather related service issues.

Please note: The South Shore’s 800-356-2079 train service information line remains out of service, as the RTA Travel Center transitions our number to their new call center vendor.

Until further notice we are advising passengers to call 312-836-7000. The RTA Travel Center is experiencing greater call volumes because of the weather and callers may encounter a busy signal.
