Slicer Football Off to a Rocky Start

Some are won and some are lost. T his past Fr iday night the LaPorte Slicer football team felt the loss. After a tough season last year, the Slicers were looking for a rebound. They took on the New Prairie Cougars with confidence, but pulled away with a loss and a score of 48 - 7.

The LaPorte and New Prairie rivalry is an old one. Many Slicers look forward to this game. The game began with a Cougar drive resulting in a touchdown. The Cougars would continue strong throughout the game with a total of 7 touchdowns. The C ougars had a strong effort from senior quarter back Zachary Brassell and junior running back Tyler Weller.

The Slicers’ highlight of the game w as when sophomore quarter back Eric M azany helped drive the team down the field during the fourth quarter and punch in their only touchdown. Mazany made his first varsity start Friday night.

“I was nervous but confident, ” Mazany stated about the opportunity of playing on the varsity team .

Junior linebacker, Sam Doig said, “I believe that the players and coaches will make the best solutions for improvement going into next week. I believe as a team we are going to work harder and get better and better each week.”
