Ivy Tech Community College recently announced return of the Manufacturing STEM Summer Camp for area middle and high school students entering grades 7-12 in upcoming 2024-2025 academic school year.
The STEM Summer Camp will take place July 8th through July 12th 2024 from 1pm to 5pm CT at the Ivy Tech Community College Campus located at 3100 Ivy Tech Drive, Valparaiso, IN. Registration and camp participation is free of charge and open to grade level qualifying students. Space is limited. First come, first serve. Limit 10 students for participation.
Students are encouraged to venture out and learn how to operate machinery and soldering irons safely in an instructor led environment at Ivy Tech’s Valparaiso Campus Flex Lab. Participants in the Adventures in Manufacturing Camp will learn about the importance of safety before connecting with active machine tools.
At the camp, students will make use the of CNC mill to machine their individual launch controllers. Students will wire up all parts necessary to ignite the rocket engines in real time.
“In 2023 our camp was an incredible success. This fun, hands on learning experience simultaneously helps students learn how to build a real working rocket launcher and actively explore machining careers across Northwest Indiana and beyond,” said Machine Tool Technology Program Chair, Don Baker.
With successful camp completion, student participants will gather and launch their rockets into sky high altitudes on the outdoor lawn space of Ivy Tech’s Valparaiso Campus.
