“Shop with MCPD” Benefits Boys & Girls Club

mcpd-shop-with-cop-2013The Michigan City Police Department, in partnership with the support of the NIPSCO,and FGD local union building trades collected donations to sponsor the “Shop with MCPD” event to assist 30 children from the local chapter of the Boys & Girls Club.

Additionally, Officer Scott Matzke launched a “Facebook” campaign of his own which raised nearly $700 in donations from his many friends from throughout the community.

The Michigan City Wal-Mart store through the assistance of store manager Steve Mockler provided snacks and refreshments for all participants Wednesday evening and we appreciate their continued support and generous donations. Most importantly a huge “Thank you” to the Officers and their spouses for volunteering and assisting us while we escorted the children throughout Wal-Mart.

Each child was assigned to an Officer and spent 30-45 minutes shopping for those special Christmas gifts. As we escorted the children they were allowed to spend up to $70.00 per child on various items. We specifically asked that one of their items be a clothing garment of either winter gloves, hat, socks etc. between the values of $5-$15. The remainder of the $70 was spent on toys, games, or whatever the child wanted to buy.
