On Saturday, May 9, 2015, Shirley Heinze Land Trust will host a volunteer workday at Barker Woods in Michigan City. This site represents a glimpse of this area as it looked prior to European settlement. We will be pulling garlic mustard (Alliaria petiolata), an invasive/exotic weed that we have been aggressively removing from this site for several years. This event is part of the Garlic Mustard Challenge, a series of events taking place at many nature preserves throughout the Midwest in an effort to dramatically reduce the negative impact that this species has on our forests.
Volunteers are requested to RSVP and indicate any dietary restrictions at jerdelac@heinzetrust.org or (219) 242-8558.
