It was an afternoon filled with greetings, laughter, characters, and the celebration of one local company’s new expansion. On July 11, digital marketing agency SERA Solutions hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the company’s next chapter.
“Today, we’re getting to celebrate the next chapter of the company and plan for the future,” said Seth Spencer, Founder & CEO of SERA Solutions. “With everything happening here in Michigan City, like the plaza and other projects, we’re really happy to be downtown right off of Franklin Street. Our new office space is about double the size of our previous office. This office will allow us to continue to grow and create more jobs.”
Before the business moved to Michigan City in 2016, SERA was based out of Porter County. For the last three years, Spencer and his team have been working closely with Michigan City to catapult SERA Solutions and the local economy.
“The city has been nothing but helpful. A few years ago, we came here (Michigan City) from Valpo and one of the reasons why we came here was because of the people, like the city government and the Economic Development Corporation of Michigan City (EDCMC).
“These are the type of companies we are working hard to attract to Michigan City – high skill-high wage jobs for our residents. Technology companies are industries of the future and we are excited they have chosen to expand in Michigan City and is a complement to our downtown placemaking strategy,” said Clarence Hulse, Executive Director of EDCMC. “[SERA Solutions] is the right type of business we want downtown in the arts district. They keep expanding and we’re very excited about their growth. They’re creating new jobs, pay well, and want to live and work in downtown.”
According to Hulse, this is the first of many businesses to come to downtown Michigan City. The city has a few other companies coming down the pipeline that are technology and social media-friendly.
“We want to create that buzz for Millennials to choose to live and work in. We want to be a city of the future - a city that can grow and accommodate the future of tech companies. By growing these types of companies, we will make sure our residents have jobs in the future that are internet friendly and technology-friendly to keep people here,” said Hulse.
“We have a local workforce - all of our staff is born and raised in Northwest Indian, so we’re passionate about that part and we’re looking to expand that local workforce,” said Spencer.
