Senior VP Finance Mary Ann Shacklett retires after 36 year career with Community Healthcare System

After a lifelong career with the Community Foundation of Northwest Indiana (CFNI), parent company to Community Healthcare System, President and Chief Executive Officer Donald P. Fesko announces that Mary Ann Shacklett, Senior Vice President-Finance and Chief Financial Officer will retire, effective July 9. Over her career during the past 36 years with CFNI, from lower to mid-management levels to the senior level, Shacklett served as a role model for other women in healthcare and finance.

In 2016, Shacklett was recognized with the Outstanding CPA in Business & Industry Awarded by the Indiana CPA Society. The award recognizes a Certified Public Accountant in business and industry that has been instrumental in the success of their employer and/or made a notable entrepreneurial achievement. She was among 14 top CPAs in the state honored for their outstanding service.

Also, in 2015, Shacklett was selected as Most Influential Woman of the Year-Finance by Influential Women of Northwest Indiana. She was recognized for her work with CFNI and the hospitals of Community Healthcare System: Community Hospital, St. Catherine Hospital, St. Mary Medical Center and Community Stroke & Rehabilitation Center as well as for service out in the community.

In her role as the top finance professional for the parent company of the hospitals of Community Healthcare System, Shacklett was directly involved with the development of Community Hospital’s Surgery Center, the hospital’s Cardiology Center, Hartsfield Village Continuing Care Retirement Community and Community Hospital Fitness Pointe. She also spearheaded the attainment of the largest bond issue of the system of $174 million. Under her leadership, the healthcare system’s Standard & Poor rating has been upgraded six times since 2008, with a current rating of AA- .

Shacklett earned a bachelor’s degree in management with a major in accounting from Purdue University Krannert School of Management, West Lafayette. She also has an MBA with a concentration in finance from Indiana University Northwest and holds a CPA.

During her tenure, Shacklett served on the Indiana Hospital Association Council on Finance, Indiana University Northwest School of Business & Economics advisory board and the Caring Place board. She also holds memberships in the Indiana CPA Society, American Institute of CPAs and the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
