The Hess Scholarship, named for the late Don Hess, longtime director of Franciscan St. Anthony Health-Crown Point’s Emergency Medical Services Academy, was awarded for the second year during a recent graduation ceremony at the hospital for the latest class of paramedics trained by the academy.
The $2,250 scholarship is funded through the Crown Point Community Foundation and is awarded to students who maintain a high grade point average and participate in community service initiatives, despite financial hardship.
Lynn Broe, of Crown Point (right), this year’s recipient, receives the honor from Hess’s widow, Lenore. The Don Hess Scholarship is funded solely through donations.
