Salvation Army of La Porte Seeking Fans for Those without Air Conditioning

salvation-army-logoEarly last week we began received numerous calls about the availability of fans for those without Air Conditioning. We began to investigate the need and the availability.

We found out that this was not a service provided for the community. We began reach out to some of our larger donors to see if there was any possibility of donations being made.

So far, the response has been tremendous with people being willing to help.

  • We have already received a promise of a donation from Kablin's Ace Hardwar to receive 10 fans and a discount if we need to purchase more.
  • We have also received a large monetary donation from First Steps of La Porte to purchase some fans.
  • We have also received a great response from the La Porte Fire Department.

Starting July 1st we will begin excepting donations of new and unopened Boxed Fans. These type of fans an extremely versatile and can be even placed I a window. They can be dropped off at our office or at any fire department station.

The reason we are asking for new and unopened fans is due to allergies and things such as that, which could be harmful.

We will begin taking applications for those in need on July 11th. People that can apply are those who are elderly (over 60) and those with young children living in the household. In order to apply, they need to stop by our office and fill out a very brief post card sized application. All they need to bring with them is ID, proof of address and proof that they have at least one child or elderly person living in the home (shot recode, ss card or birth certificate etc.) The information for the child and senior will not be recorded and will be used only to verify that they live in the home. Once we begin to receive applications we will contact the people based on availability of fans.

This is a great way the community can come together and help each other. Our hope is that this will be a very smooth operation where and fan comes in and can go right back out.
