President Tyler Smith called the meeting to order and led members in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and the Four-Way Test of Rotary. Mike Sutton offered the invocation.

Leigh Morris led in singing “Get Happy”.

Sergeant-at-Arms – Andy Serafin raised money for the club with questions about the ancient game of golf and a putting contest using an “authentic antique” Scottish putter.

Announcements – President Smith asked for volunteers to attend the Rotary Membership Growth and Retention seminar this Saturday August 17 in Plymouth IN. Contact Tyler if you can attend.

He also announced the Rotary International Service Expo in November in Ecuador and the “Taste of the Gardens” fundraiser for Elkhart Rotary. Contact Tyler if you are interested.

He reported on Floyd Lancia’s weekly update on Rotary’s worldwide effort to eradicate polio. There have been 177 cases to date this year, many of them in Nigeria.

He also reminded members of the Board of Directors of the meeting to be held Tuesday, August 13 at Best Western.

Program – Wendy Levenfeld, Purdue North Central Sinai Forum

Rotarian Ed Volk, who is also a member of the Sinai Forum planning committee, introduced Ms. Levenfeld. For 60 years the Forum has brought noted speakers from various fields to this area to provide their perspective and insights into national and world affairs and concerns and to meet with Forum ticket holders. Presentations are held at either Michigan City High School or Elston Middle School. T his 60th season includes: September 15 – Robert Gibbs – “Inside the Oval (Office)”; September 29 – Dag Kittlaus – “The Only Constant is (Technological) Change”; October 13 – Charles Krauthammer – “America’s Role in the World”; October 27 – Richard A. Baker – “A Body in Motion: the Evolving US Senate”; November 17 – Garrison Keilor – An evening with the author and humorist; and December 8 – Margaret I. Cuomo – “A World Without Cancer”.
