rotary logoSergeant-at-Arms – Mitch Feikes (assisted by Tyler Smith with the basket) raised money for the club with trivia questions about the Kentucky Derby.

Rotary International Foundation – Foundation Chair Leigh Morris reminded members that the club’s goal is for every Rotarian to give $100 each year; contributions of any amount are appreciated. Contributions for the current Rotary year are due by June 1.

Hands-On Work Day in La Porte – Saturday, May 18

Tyler Smith is calling on Rotarians to work on the Craven Pond Clean up, on this date designated by the La Porte Ministerial Association as a Day of Sharing. The day begins at 8am with a short prayer service on the steps of city hall. Work will be done from 8:30 until noon.

Scholarship Awards – Scott West, chair of the Scholarship committee, thanked President Varnak for her presentation at the La Porte High School awards evening on May 2. Winners for this year are: Adam Tschida and Spencer West, 2013 graduates of La Porte High School; Jared Dyjak, 2013 graduate of Lacrosse High School; and Stuart West, a junior at Rose Hulman. Scholarships are funded by the John and Helen Haverstock Memorial Scholarship Foundation administered by La Porte Rotary. Over the past 14 years, $116,000 has been awarded to recent high school graduates, college students, and post-grad students.

June 17 – Annual Picnic – 5:30 PM at the picnic shelter at Legacy Hills Golf Club – catering by Spire Restaurant. $15.00 per adult and $10.00 per child. The evening will include the

Family Picnic; Installation of officers and board for 2013/2014; Scholarship Awards; as well as the Installation of La Porte Rotary’s Christina Dougherty as District Governor and installation of the District Board.

Program – Club Assembly – Review of annual goals and summary of projects

President Varnak showed a video on the Rotary International Polio Eradication Initiative which has been funded by Rotarians contributions to the Foundation. S he also distributed and reviewed her summary of the annual goals and projects of our Club, explaining what occurs and how Rotarians can get involved. Those who spearhead various events and projects were invited to comment as well. The club’s growth over the last two years and the beginning of the new Rotary year on July 1 made the review a timely one. Rotarians who know where they may want to get further involved are asked to be in touch with incoming president Tyler Smith as he continues his planning for next year. (President Varnak has agreed to share her summary with all Rotarians by means of email attachment.)
