Robert (Bob) Hugh Coulter, 78, of LaPorte, passed away on Friday, January 22, 2021 at Northwest Health - Porter.

Bob was born on October 11, 1942 in Valparaiso, Indiana to Hugh and Mildred (Sedgwick) Coulter.

On April 18, 1964, Bob married Carolyn Phillips of LaPorte, and they have a daughter Tracey (Joseph) Martin of Carmel, IN who survives. On August 26, 1986, Bob married Barbara Wheeler of LaPorte, and they have a son Zach (Courtney) Coulter of LaPorte who survives. Bob is also survived by step-daughter Brandi Tanger of Florence, Italy; 5 grandchildren, Paul (Brooke) Martin of Westfield, IN, Michael Martin of Carmel, IN, Kathleen (Patrick) Schwartz of Westfield, IN, Erin Martin of Carmel, IN, and Zoey Davis of LaPorte; 2 great-granddaughters, Claire and Sophie Martin of Westfield, IN; 4 sisters, Diane Conway of Brownsburg IN, Janet (Knoefel) Jones of Porter Beach, IN, Barbara (Bill) Coats of Oak Park, IL, and Peggy Bos of Fort Myers, FL; a cousin, Carol (Mike) Thorsen of Victoria, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved very much.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, Dwight Conway and David Bos; uncle, Marvin Sedgwick; and aunts, Kathryn Coulter and Esther Sedgwick.

Bob had a love for life and touched countless lives. He never met a stranger and was genuinely interested in those with whom he interacted. He generously offered compliments and was rarely seen without a smile on his face. He had a great love for his family. Bob graduated from Westville High School where he set records running cross-country. He served in the U.S. Army and spent many years on his beloved family farm near Westville. He was the founder and co-owner of the plat book company Town and Country Publishing Company in LaPorte. Later in life, he obtained his real estate license and had a hand in building several neighborhoods in the LaPorte area for over 20 years. He loved helping his clients housing dreams come true.

Bob enjoyed many things, but what he enjoyed most was spending time with his friends and family. His passions included harness horse racing, playing cards, watching football, and meeting new people. Often, you could find him enjoying a meal at his favorite restaurant, Christo’s. Bob was never shy of hard work and was always available to help others.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Newhard Funeral Home in Westville, IN, with a private family burial on Friday, January 29th at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso, IN. A Memorial Celebration of Bob’s life will be held at a later date.

Due to the pandemic and safety of others, anyone attending the visitation will be required to wear a mask and practice social distancing of six feet. There is also a limit of 25 people in the funeral home at any given time. We kindly ask for your patience and respect of these mandated guidelines.
