Rob Grant Honored with Benefit Fundraiser

On August 1, 2015, the Michigan City Police force lost a valiant officer. In the wake of tragedy, Rob Grant’s friends and family joined together to host a benefit for Grant’s daughters. On November 15th they gathered at the La Porte County Fairgrounds to honor their friend.

The Rob Grant Benefit raised money to deposit into an education savings account for Rob Grant’s daughters. Makayla, 8, and Maura, 5, have accounts at PNC Bank for anyone else who would like to donate. A booth just inside the door was collecting monetary donations.

Albano’s Pizza donated dinner. Each slice sold contributed to the growing savings fund.

“It’s important for us to be involved in events like this,” said Shawn Condes of the local pizzeria. “It’s important for the kids and the family to see everyone come out and support them.”

The benefit also had a concession stand, a bake sale, and a cash bar. All proceeds go toward securing a future for Officer Grant’s daughters.

The band High Noon was out helping the community for the second day in a row. After opening for a crowd at the Civic Auditorium the night before, it was an honor to see them playing again for the guests at the Rob Grant Benefit.

“Rob was the kind of guy who would do anything for you,” said friend Dave Ambers. who was part of the committee of friends that organized the benefit. Every planning meeting they had was bigger than the last, as more friends wanted to participate. “He did so much to help the people. The least we could do is help his family.”

Rob Grant’s mother, Laura Grant, said, “I think it is wonderful what they are doing for the girls. It’s overwhelming. Everybody loved [Rob]. They want to help. And it will be great for the girls to see.”
