lakemichiganRenewing the Region, an annual exhibit featuring art from recycled and repurposed objects, will open on May 16, at the Indiana Welcome Center. The exhibit will run through August 20 in the W.F. Wellman Exhibit Hall.

Hundreds of artworks artworks are on display with large keystone pieces by artist and collector Jeff Fink. Fink has been designing metal and steel pieces for nearly his entire life and will have dozens of his pieces on display at the Renewing the Region Exhibit, including the large falcon hanging from the center of the exhibit hall.

Renewing the Region is the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority’s longest-running exhibit, and was first featured at the Indiana Welcome Center in 2001 as “Trash to Treasure.” In 2011, the exhibit transitioned to highlight fashionable items made from recycled materials in “Trashion.” The exhibit returned in 2014 with pieces of art and furniture.

Visitors will see a diverse display of art as well as restored, refurbished and renewed pieces. The exhibit will encourage visitors to look at things in a new way while inspiring artistic conservation.

The Indiana Welcome Center is open seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily. For more information on Renewing the Region, contact the Indiana Welcome Center at 219-989-7979 or visit alongthesouthshore.com.
