Remington Water Tower Days to Feature Kids’ Area, Live Music

remingtonThe annual Remington Water Tower Days Festival will be hosted in downtown Remington on Friday, June 13, and Saturday, June 14. Visitors are invited to experience downtown Remington while enjoying food, craft and community yard sale vendors, a parade, a 5K walk/run and more.

Beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, June 13, attendees may enjoy a fish fry at the American Legion. Opening ceremonies for the festival will begin at 6:00 p.m. in front of the Remington Public Library, located at 105 N Ohio St., and will feature Sen. Brandt Hershman. Attendees may also participate in a corn hole tourney and a basketball three-point shooting contest, as well as enjoy the kids’ area, free hot air balloon rides, a beer garden and live entertainment.

On Saturday, June 14, festival attendees may participate in a 5K walk/run, with proceeds benefiting the Lafayette Area Down Syndrome Organization. Registration begins at 7:00 a.m. and costs $20 per person. The race begins at 8:00 a.m.

The parade, grand marshaled by father and son veterans Larry and Mike Dexter, will step off at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 14. Larry Dexter was in the Army National Guard and Mike Dexter recently retired from the Navy after serving for 23 years.

In addition to the 5K and parade, festival attendees can enjoy a community yard sale, water ball, a petting zoo and camel rides, live music entertainment, a pizza-eating contest and the Fireman’s Pork Chop Dinner. The beer garden will be open from 7:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m.

According to Dana Pampel, president of the festival planning committee, the group hopes to promote downtown Remington and its businesses with the festival. Additionally, the committee wanted to create an inexpensive family-fun event for residents and visitors while highlighting Remington’s historic water tower.

“Remington is home to the only brick tower with a wooden tank in the state,” stated Pampel.
