Registration Open for Fall Lacrosse Season

lacrosseRegistration for Duneland Lacrosse’s 2012 Fall Lacrosse Season will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 29, at the Library Service Center, 100 W. Indiana Ave.

Lacrosse is the oldest but fastest-growing sport in the United States, its beginnings in Native American worship. Originating about 1100 AD, lacrosse featured teams as big as 1,000 men and fields as long as 1.8 miles.

Duneland’s girls’ team will play six weekends, from Sept. 16 to Oct. 28, with additional games for older girls. The boys will also play six weekends, from Sept. 23 to Oct. 28.

The girls will practice two days a week (Saturdays and Sundays), and the boys will practice one day a week. Both girls and boys will practice at Dogwood Park in Chesterton.

The cost for the girls is $125 per player, which includes a T-shirt. The cost for the boys is $100, which includes a reversible game jersey.

For insurance purposes, every player must become a U.S. Lacrosse member, which costs approximately $25. Each player will need equipment. Girls play with a stick, goggles and mouth guard. Boys play with shoulder pads, arm guards, gloves, stick and helmet.
