Scrabble is one of the most popular games in America. In fact, one out of every three households owns a Scrabble game. But have you ever played with a partner against another pair? Please come and try this method, using traditional Scrabble rules but playing with a team member, at 7:00 p.m., CDT, on Thursday, September 27 at the Best Western Plus La Porte Hotel & Conference Center, 444 Pine Lake Ave., La Porte. The doors open at 6:30 p.m., CDT. The cost is $25 per person. Scholarships are available. You may register in a team of two or as an individual to be assigned a partner. Register ahead of time by contacting Mary Hedge at mhedge8@comcast.net. Registrations at the door are also accepted.
This event is READ La Porte County, Inc.'s ninth annual Scrabble Tournament fund raiser. Everyone will receive complimentary snacks. A cash bar will be available. Everyone will receive a door prize and additional prizes will be awarded to the top scoring teams, the top word scorer, and the person who plays the largest number of silver words from a list in honor of the organization's 25th (silver) anniversary.
Consider coming with a family member. Team up with a son or daughter, a brother or sister, or a parent. Consider coming with someone you work with. Have fun challenging people from other groups.
Don't know how to play Scrabble? We'll show you how beginning at 6:30 p.m., CDT, before the tournament. Or go to www.scrabble-assoc.com for the official rules.
If Scrabble isn't for you, please think about donating in another way. Sponsor a team which can't afford to play. Submit a cash donation. Give a prize.
