Ugarte (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn), a 6-foot-5 center back, helped the Pride hold its opponents to just five shots on goal and 20 total shots in PNW's two CCAC wins over Cardinal Stritch (Oct. 11) and against Roosevelt (Oct. 15), a 2-0 shutout.

Ugarte also accounted for the game-winning goal in the final minute of the second overtime in the 2-1 win over Cardinal Stritch. The freshman played all 200 minutes in the two victories, which gave PNW four-straight wins.

The CCAC honor was the first for Ugarte and the second award for PNW this season, after goalkeeper Miguel David nabbed the same honor back in September.

PNW currently sits fifth in the CCAC standings, with a 5-1-2 conference record and 17 total points so far this season.

Purdue Northwest Scores Key Win at Roosevelt The Purdue University Northwest men’s soccer team captured a key victory in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference race with Saturday’s 2-0 shutout win at Roosevelt University.

The Pride (7-4-3, 5-1-2 CCAC) blanked the second-place Lakers (9-5-1, 6-3) to move within one point of Roosevelt in the regular-season standings. League leader Olivet Nazarene (7-0-1) stands in first place with 22 points, five ahead of PNW’s 17.

Freshman Michael Brownsea (Albury, Australia) tallied what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 26’ with a long run on the left side that he finished with a shot that bounced in off the far post.

Junior Zac Doepke (Troy, Mich./Troy) added PNW’s insurance score in the 60’ on a quick strike following a scrum off a free kick to seal it for the Pride, who won their fourth-straight conference game.

Junior keeper Miguel David (Spring Valley, Calif./Bonita Vista) picked up the clean sheet for the Pride, stopping three Roosevelt shots as both defenses kept the ball away from both goals. PNW recorded seven shots — six of them on goal — compared to nine shots and just three on goal for the Lakers.

But Roosevelt (3-11, 3-6) would come out strong to start the second half, evening the score at 1-1 when a goal from Anna Agboola found the back of the net in the 46th minute.

Fifteen minutes later, Agboola connected on what would be the game-winning goal on a header that slipped just under the crossbar to give the Lakers the 2-1 advantage.
