PNW-Purdue-Northwest-Battles-21-Stritch-in-2-1-SetbackPurdue Northwest Battles #21 Stritch in 2-1 Setback In wild weather conditions, the Purdue University Northwest women’s soccer team finished within just one goal of No. 21-ranked Cardinal Stritch in a 2-1 conference setback Wednesday at Dowling Park’s Pepsi Field.

The Pride (4-8, 2-5 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference) allowed the first goal of the match in the 16th minute, after Jamie Karch gave the Wolves (10-2-0, 8-0-0 CCAC) the 1-0 lead.

Both teams would remain scoreless for the remainder of the half, with Stritch taking the 1-0 advantage in to the break.

Heavy rain would continue to fall to start the second half, as Karch connected on her 19th goal of the season to put the Wolves ahead, 2-0.

But PNW would continue to battle, cutting its deficit to one after a straight away free kick from 40 yards out by Shayna Coy (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Luers) dropped in under the cross bar in the 66th minute.

The Pride would have one final attempt to even the score in the final seconds of the game on a corner kick, but the Wolves would clear the ball out of the box to seal the road win.

Stritch outshot the Pride by a 16-5 margin, with 12 of the visitors’ shots coming on goal.

Coy led the Pride with four shots, two on goal, while Shayla McNeal (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) notched one shot in the loss.

Sophomore Lucie Ashmore (Greystones, Ireland/St. Gerard’s School) recorded 10 total saves in 90 minutes of play in the setback.

PNW returns to action Saturday, Oct. 15, when the Pride travel to Roosevelt for a CCAC contest starting at 11:30 a.m. (CT).
