PNW-Springs-Shooting-Performance-Leads-PNW-Past-Stritch-95-76Spring's Shooting Performance Leads PNW Past Stritch, 95-76 Led by a blistering shooting performance from sophomore Chandler Spring, the Purdue University Northwest men’s basketball team put together a dominating offensive performance in Saturday’s 95-76 road win over Cardinal Stritch.

Spring (Covington, Ind./Covington) scored 24 of his career-high 34 points in the first half, when he made 9-of-11 shots from the field including 5-of-6 from behind the arc that helped the Pride (7-11, 5-5 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference take a comfortable 55-34 lead at the half.

Spring would go on to finish 12-of-16 from the field and 7-of-10 from the field, setting career-bests in field goals made and 3-point field goals in the process. Junior teammate Torrance Johnson added his 11th double-double of the season, netting 17 points (8-of-14 from the field) and 10 rebounds and classmate Tyree Coe (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) added 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting for PNW.

The Pride shot a blistering 63.3 percent (38-of-60) from the field and 61.1 percent (11-of-18) from deep, both season-bests, and held the Wolves (10-9. 6-3 CCAC) to just 39.7 percent (29-of-73) from the field and 26.1 percent (6-of-23) from 3.

Pride senior Shereff Knight (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City) chipped in 10 points, eight assists, five rebounds, three steals, and two blocks, and Spring added nine boards in the effort, which snapped a two-game losing streak and evened up PNW’s conference record at 5-5.

PNW trailed just once in the contest, 4-3, at the 18:29 mark of the first half before enacting a 29-1 over the next eight and a half minutes to take a 32-14 lead with 10:03 before the half.

Carlos Knox led Stritch with 25 points in the loss.

Purdue Northwest returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 11, with a CCAC road contest at Trinity Christian College. Game time in Palos Heights, Ill., is set for 7:30 p.m. CT.

#16 Purdue Northwest Handles #16 Stritch, 73-50 The No. 14 Purdue University Northwest women’s basketball team used a mid-game surge to pull away from No. 16 Cardinal Stritch late en route to a convincing 73-50 conference victory on the road Saturday.

The Pride (14-5, 9-1 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference) trailed after one quarter, 17-10, before outscoring the host Wolves (13-4, 7-2) 18-6 in the second frame and then 27-11 in the third to put the game in check.

Seniors Darien Thompson (Anderson, Ind./Anderson) and Cassidy Deno (Otterbein, Ind./Benton Central) led the way like they have all season, as Thompson poured in a game-high 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field and Deno added 19 points and seven boards in the win.

Deno finished 5-of-10 from the field and 4-of-8 from 3-point land, adding two steals, and PNW teammates Ellie Michalski (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) and Shae Rhonehouse (Fremont, Ind./Fremont) added nine points each, with Michalski adding four assists and five boards and Rhonehouse six rebounds.

The Pride scored 25 points off 19 Stritch turnovers, though PNW committed identical giveaway numbers but was able to hold the Wolves to just 13 points off of those turnovers.

Purdue Northwest shot a stellar 57.8 percent (26-of-45) from the field and hit 9-of-20 (45.0 percent) from deep compared to just 33.3 (20-of-60) and 31.3 percent (5-of-16) for Stritch. The NAIA Division II leader in free-throw percentage, PNW also won the battle at the charity stripe, making 12-of-17 (70.6 percent) compared to 5-of-9 (55.6 percent) for the host.

Maranda Huibregtse was the lone Wolf in double-figure scoring for Stritch with a team-high 15 points in the loss.

Purdue Northwest returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 11, with a CCAC road contest at Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Ill. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. CT.
