PNW-Mens-Hoops-Earns-83-72-Victory-Over-RooseveltMen's Hoops Earns 83-72 Victory Over Roosevelt The Purdue University men’s basketball team picked up an 83-72 victory over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent Roosevelt University Saturday afternoon.

The Pride (11-12, 9-6 CCAC) picked up its fourth-straight CCAC victory with its win over the Lakers (10-14, 6-9 CCAC), after outrebounding RU 40-30, including 15 offensive rebounds.

Junior Torrance Johnson (Chicago Heights, Ill./Chicago Hope Academy) picked up his 14th, double-double of the season, pouring in 23 points while bringing down 12 rebounds with four assists.

Tyree Coe (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) added 17 points with a trio of three-point field goals, while Chandler Spring (Covington, Ind./Covington) recorded 16 points with four trifectas.

Senior Cyril Lewis (Houston, Texas/Virginia Union) chipped in with 14 points including seven rebounds while Mike Williams (Gary, Ind./Lew Wallace) came off the bench and scored 13 points to round out the leaders for the Black and Gold.

PNW came out of the gates hot, jumping out to a 7-0 run early on in the first half, before extending its lead to 11-6 with 16:02 left in the period.

The Black and Gold would storm out on a 13-0 run to take a commanding 23-6 advantage with 13:42 remaining.

PNW would hold on to its double-digit lead for the rest of the half, taking a 45-32 lead heading in to the break.

Roosevelt would cut in to its deficit and get within single-digits, but the Pride would continue fight and keep its large lead for the remainder of the game.

PNW would hold on in the final minutes of the contest and come away with the 83-72 victory.

The Pride shot 40 percent from beyond the arc on the day, compared to just 26.3 percent from the Lakers.

Purdue Northwest will return to action Wednesday, Feb. 1, when the Pride take on Olivet Nazarene in Bourbonnais, Ill. Tip-off is set for 8:15 pm (CT).

Deno Surpasses 2,000; PNW Tops Roosevelt, 80-65 In a historic day for Purdue University Northwest women’s basketball, the No. 15 Pride took down visiting Roosevelt University, 80-65, in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday at the Fitness & Rec Center.

Prior to the contest, the Pride (18-6, 13-2) honored its three seniors – Darien Thompson, Katie Wampler, and Cassidy Deno – for senior day, with Deno needing just 14 points to reach 2,000 for her career.

She didn’t disappoint.

The senior hit her first 4-of-5 from 3-point land and added a jumper at the 6-minute mark of the second quarter to not only reach the mark, but help PNW jump out to 47-30 halftime lead.

All three seniors led the way in the win, as Thompson (Anderson, Ind./Anderson) scored a team-best 22 points and added four assists and five boards; Deno (Otterbein, Ind./Benton Central) finished with 19 points, four assists, two blocks and a steal and Wampler (Scottsburg, Ind./Scottsburg) added her second double-double of the season with 14 points (4-of-5 from the field) and 12 rebounds.

The Pride led 23-9 after the first quarter thanks to nine – three triples – points from Deno and

Roosevelt fought back with 21 points in the second quarter, but the Pride still took a 17-point lead into the break. PNW led by as many as 20, 59-39, on a Thompson layup at the 2:30 mark of the third quarter before the Lakers (12-13, 6-9) made a late run.

The closest RU would get was 10, 61-51, with 8:49 to play, but PNW freshman Shae Rhonehouse (Fremont, Ind./Fremont) would answer the charge with a big triple to help sway the momentum back toward the home team.

Rhonehouse added eight points, hitting two 3s for the first time this season, and teammate Ellie Michalski (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) added eight points, nine boards, three blocks and two steals.

PNW shot 43.3 percent (26-of-60) for the game compared to 35.8 percent (24-of-67) for the Lakers, as the Pride used a 10-2 advantage in fast break points to contribute to the win.

Purdue Northwest returns to action Wednesday, Feb. 1, when the Pride travel to Bourbonnais, Ill., to take on Olivet Nazarene. Tip off is set for 5 p.m. CT.
