PNW-Mens-Hoops-Drops-Contest-to-Trinity-Christian-WednesdayMen's Hoops Drops Contest to Trinity Christian Wednesday The Purdue University Northwest men’s basketball team dropped a 72-45 decision to Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent Trinity Christian Wednesday night.

The Pride (7-12, 5-6 CCAC) were led by Torrance Johnson (Chicago Heights, Ill./Chicago Hope Academy) who poured in 20 points on 10-of-14 shooting including seven rebounds.

Tyree Coe (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) recorded six points with two assists and Shereff Knight (Michigan City/Michigan City) rounded out the offense with five points and three assists.

Trinity Christian (6-12, 3-8 CCAC) started the game off hot, jumping out to a 22-15 advantage with 8:24 left in the first half.

The Trolls would extend its lead to double-digits over the Black and Gold heading in to the break, 36-22.

A made layup from Knight with 18:07 left in the second half cut the Pride’s deficit to eight points, 38-30, but the Trolls would come back and take a 57-37 advantage midway through the half.

TCC would keep a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game and come away with the 72-45 victory.

The Black and Gold return to action Saturday, January 14, when they host St. Xavier University at the Fitness and Recreation Center at 3 p.m. (CT.)

Purdue Northwest to Host Special Olympics Day Jan. 14 The Purdue University Northwest athletic department will honor local Lake County athletes when the Pride basketball teams host Special Olympics Day, set for Saturday, Jan. 14 at the Fitness and Recreation Center in Hammond.

The PNW men and women will take on visiting St. Xavier University in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. CT, with the women’s game set to tip off first, followed the men’s game at 3 p.m.

At halftime of the women’s game, the Pride will honor the Special Olympics of Indiana Lake County Chapter when PNW invites its athletes to participate in a recreational basketball game.

The PNW teams will also offer a post-game autograph session and photo opportunities for all the Special Olympics athletes, families and coaches in attendance Saturday.

Purdue Northwest Cruises in 85-46 Win at Trinity Christian Four players reached double-figure scoring to lead the No. 15 Purdue University Northwest women’s basketball team to a convincing 85-46 conference victory at Trinity Christian College Wednesday night.

The victory pushed the Pride to 15-5 overall and 10-1 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference, their lone loss to overall No. 1 St. Francis (Ill.).

Sophomore Michaela Kikendall (Morristown, Ind./Morristown) set a season-high with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting and added seven rebounds and junior teammate Ellie Michalski (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) added 15 points of her own, making 7-of-10 shots from the field.

Senior Cassidy Deno (Otterbein, Ind./Benton Central) added her team-best sixth double-double (and 19th of her career) with 11 points and a career-high 15 rebounds, and rookie Shae Rhonehouse (Fremont, Ind./Fremont) chipped in 13 points on 6-of-10 from the field.

Purdue Northwest jumped out to a 20-13 lead after one quarter and then outscored the Trolls (8-10, 3-8) 24-12 in the second frame to head into the locker room up, 44-23, at the half.

PNW never trailed in the contest, opening the game with an 8-0 run fueled by two Katie Wampler (Scottsburg, Ind./Scottsburg) layup and a rare four-point play by Deno, who drained a 3-pointer, got fouled and hit the ensuing free throw at the 7:34 mark of the first quarter.

The Pride shot 56.7 percent (33-of-62) for the game while holding TCC to just 26.6 percent (17-of-64) shooting from the field. PNW dominated the boards, 52-28, as Wampler grabbed eight more to go along with eight points and junior Jessica Kiser (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) added five rebounds off the bench.

Senior Darien Thompson chipped in nine points, three assists and three boards and sophomore Heather Burton (Valparaiso, Ind./Washington Township) added nine points, draining 3-of-4 from downtown.

Bethany Jansma led the Trolls with 14 points in the setback.

Purdue Northwest returns to action Saturday, Jan. 14, when the Pride host No. 3 St. Xavier in the first game of the doubleheader with the men’s teams beginning at 1 p.m. CT at Hammond’s Fitness and Recreation Center.

The day will honor the Special Olympics chapter of Lake County, with the group’s athletes playing during halftime of the women’s contest.
