Men's Hoops Drops Non-League Contest to Spring Arbor The Purdue University Northwest men’s basketball dropped a 62-53 decision to non-conference opponent Spring Arbor Friday afternoon.
The Pride (6-10) were led by junior forward Torrance Johnson (Chicago Heights, Ill./Chicago Hope Academy) who notched his ninth double-double of the season with 24 points and 16 rebounds.
Tyree Coe (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) would score 11 points while Chandler Spring recorded eight points with four rebounds to round out the leaders for the Black and Gold.
After a made jumper from Lukas Vilkovsky (Kosice, Slovakia/Get Better Academy) gave the Pride a 10-4 lead to start off the game, Spring Arbor would answer with a run of its own to go up 14-13 with 8:59 remaining in the half.
PNW would come right back to take a 17-16 lead thanks to a fast break dunk from Coe, but the Cougars would extend their lead later in the half to take a 31-21 advantage heading in to the break.
PNW would regain the lead with 9:15 left thanks to a made basket from Johnson, but the Coiugars would come back and take a 56-49 lead with 2:02 left.
Spring Arbor would hold on to their lead in the final minutes of the game to defeat the Pride, 62-53.
The Pride won the battle on the boards 40-38, but the Cougars would outscore the Black and Gold in the paint 38-24.
PNW returns to action Tuesday, Jan. 3, when they travel to Joliet, Ill. for a CCAC contest with St. Francis. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. (CT).
