PNW-Purdue-Northwests-Stella-Evers-Earns-CCAC-Player-of-the-WeekPurdue Northwest's Stella Evers Earns CCAC Player of the Week Registering a pair of wins against league competition during the week of April 3-9, Purdue University Northwest's Stella Evers (Aurich, Germany) used those performances to land Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week commendations, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.

In a 6-3 victory over Judson on Saturday, Evers rallied for a 3-6, 7-6, 10-8 win at No. 2 singles before teaming up with Brooke Foltz for an 8-0 shutout at No. 2 doubles. The loss for Judson was its first in league play this season.

With the two wins, Evers is now 4-6 in singles action and 5-5 in doubles play this year.

Purdue Northwest got back to the .500 mark for the season (6-6) with the win, while improving to 2-0 in conference matches.

Purdue Northwest Sweeps Roosevelt, 3-0 and 4-2 The Purdue University Northwest baseball team picked up a doubleheader sweep at Roosevelt (Ill.) Wednesday, topping the Lakers by scores of 3-0 and 4-2 in at Standard Bank Stadium in Crestwood, Ill.

The Pride (16-13, 9-5 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference) got wins on the mound from senior Matt Sandoval (Highland, Ind./Bishop Noll) and junior Jimmy Skiff (Dyer, Ind./Andrean).

Purdue Northwest returns to action Friday when PNW kicks off a three-game series with Indiana South Bend. The Pride take on the Titans in South Bend, Ind., in a single game Friday before hosting IUSB in a pair at Dowling Park on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. CT.

GAME 1: PNW 3, ROOSEVELT 0 Senior Matt Sandoval (Highland, Ind./Bishop Noll) threw yet another complete-game gem, as the senior right-hander improved to 6-1 on the year after scattering seven hits, striking out five and not allowing a run in the opener.

PNW got on the board early after loading the bases with two outs and eventually scoring on a Roosevelt balk in the top of the first inning.

The Pride added two more in the fourth, when Hunter Thorn (Portage, Ind./Portage) walked and then advanced to second on a Cody Moskovsky (St. John, Ind./Bishop Noll) single. A Jonny Albers (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) sac bunt moved the runners over and Brock Crews (Manteno, Ill./Manteno) drove in the first run on a sacrifice fly to center.

After Mike Mikulich (Hebron, Ind./Hebron) walked, it was Austin Kordik (West Chicago Ill./Community) who added the other score, as the sophomore singled to center field to plate Moskovsky from third.

That’s all Sandoval would need, as the senior shut down the Lakers the rest of the way and did not allow an extra base hit while giving up just two walks.

Moskovsky finished 2-for-4 with a run scored, Thorn was 2-for-3 with a run and Kordik went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Tyler Crussen (Wheeler, Ind./Wheeler) and Mikulich also added hits, both singles.

GAME 2: PNW 4, ROOSEVELT 2 The Pride completed the two-game sweep behind consistent scoring in the day’s second game, totaling 11 hits in nine innings and junior Jimmy Skiff (Dyer, Ind./Andrean) picked up the win, his second of the year.

Roosevelt opened the game with a run in the second, but PNW responded in the top of the third when Hunter Thorn singled up the middle to score Larry Crisler (Gary, Ind./Bishop Noll), who singled.

PNW would get runs in the fourth (Austin Kordik RBI single) and fifth (Thorn groundout) to make it 3-1 PNW before the Lakers mustered another run in the sixth to cut the lead to just one, at 3-2.

But the Pride would add an insurance run in the ninth on a Tyler Crussen sacrifice fly that plated Kordik and gave the game its final score, as senior Brody Kutch (La Porte, Ind./La Porte) picked up the save with a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the frame.

Skiff went six innings, scattering six hits, striking out five, walking none and allowing just two earned runs.

On the offense, Kordik went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored; Crisler was 2-for-4 with two runs; Thorn went 1-for-4 with two RBI and Alex Batistatos (Hobart, Ind./Hobart) was 2-for-4 to lead PNW.
