Purdue University Northwest welcomed some 115 new and continuing students to the fourth annual Student Leadership Conference Aug. 9 and 10 aimed at developing and strengthening their leadership, professional and personal skills.

“This conference provided opportunities for our students to network with their fellow student leaders, academic professionals, faculty members, and community business members,” Purdue Northwest Student Life Coordinator Cody Dallas said. “It also paves the way for these students to become more involved on campus by way of being exposed to all that this university has to offer them.”

The two-day event included a variety of workshops on leadership development, teambuilding and networking, and interaction with university faculty. Additional highlights included a meet and greet with more than 20 employers, an opportunity for students to take professional photos, and a lesson in etiquette during a four-course dinner.

Expressing interest Students were nominated to participate in the conference by Purdue Northwest deans, faculty and staff members. New students who expressed an interest in leadership opportunities also were invited.

“We are seeing a positive trend from students that have attended the Student Leadership Conference. They are more involved in campus through employment, student organizations, leadership programs and even within their respective colleges,” Dallas stated.
