Purdue University's programs in engineering, education and business continue to be ranked among the best in the country in U.S.News & World Report's graduate school rankings released Tuesday (March 12).
"These rankings, particularly the sustained upward movement by both the College of Engineering and the College of Education over the last several years, show that Purdue continues to excel in education at the graduate level," said Timothy Sands, executive vice president for academic affairs and provost. "We are pleased that the efforts of our faculty to enhance our graduate programs while expanding Purdue's research portfolio are being recognized externally."
Not all disciplines are ranked each year. Other Purdue programs were ranked in previous surveys, and their placements carry over to this year's report.
Programs ranked this year include:
Engineering: Purdue's College of Engineering was ranked No. 8 in the country. Last year, the college's graduate program was ranked 10th.
Eight of the schools in engineering are in the top 10 in the nation in specialty rankings, including a No. 1 ranking for agricultural and biological and engineering. Aeronautics and astronautics ranked sixth; civil engineering ranked sixth; mechanical engineering ranked eighth; nuclear engineering ranked eighth, tied with Pennsylvania State University; electrical engineering ranked 10th; and industrial engineering ranked 10th.
Education: Purdue's College of Education ranked 32nd, tied with the College of William and Mary, the University of Illinois-Chicago, the University of Iowa and the University of Pittsburgh. Purdue's ranking is up from 37th last year.
Business: Krannert School of Management ranked 44th, tied with the University of Arizona and the University of Iowa. Among specialty rankings, Krannert's production/operations program ranked seventh and its supply chain/logistics program ranked ninth.
Additional programs ranked this year include:
Psychology: Purdue's Department of Psychological Sciences, part of the College of Health and Human Sciences, was ranked 46th, tied with Michigan State University, Stony Brook University-SUNY and the University of Massachussets-Amherst.

In the latest undergraduate rankings by U.S.News & World Report, released in August 2012, Purdue was ranked 23rd among the nation's public universities. The university was ranked 11th overall and eighth among public universities in "up-and-comers" for "the most promising and innovative changes in the areas of academics, faculty and student life," as determined by a survey of college administrators. Purdue was again acknowledged in four of eight student success categories. The areas, in which schools are listed but not ranked, are First-Year Experience, Writing in the Disciplines, Learning Communities and Internships.
U.S.News & World Report's complete rankings in America's Best Graduate Schools will be available on newsstands April 9. U.S.News has published graduate school rankings annually since 1987.
