Purdue Resources Available to Recover from Floods

Purdue-ExtensionPurdue University has resources to help people deal with flooding problems.

The Purdue Extension publication, "First Steps to Flood Recovery" is available free at the local Purdue Extension office. It’s also available on the Web at http://www.extension.purdue.edu/floodpub/ and covers many flood-related issues.

The publication has information regarding how to take care of people and pets during a flood, how to enter a flooded building and salvage damaged property and how to deal with foods contaminated by floodwaters.

If your house is flooded, Purdue Extension has three short videos that review 1) safety precautions to take before re-entering a flooded house, 2) cleaning a flooded house and 3) help with contractors when fixing flooded houses. Here is the link to view all three Purdue flood-related videos and get additional information: http://www.ag.purdue.edu/extension/eden/Pages/flood-home.aspx

Additional resources are available from the Purdue Extension Disaster Education Network at http://www.ag.purdue.edu/extension/eden/Pages/flood-info.aspx. Topics include how to deal with flooded wells, mold prevention and removal and cleaning flooded basements.

More information on flood preparedness and recovery also is available by contacting the Purdue Extension office in La Porte County at (888) EXT-INFO or (219) 324-9407.
