purdue-research-parkOwners of a consulting firm that helps municipalities, industries and schools incorporate environmentally friendly products and practices have been recognized for improving the quality of life in Northwest Indiana.

Carl and Lorrie Lisek, co-founders of Legacy Environmental Services Inc., received the 2012 Quality of Life Outstanding Achievement Award from One Region, a nonprofit organization devoted to improving life in Northwest Indiana. The group was formed as the result of a merger between the Quality of Life Council and the One Region: One Vision initiative.

Lorrie Lisek said Legacy Environmental Services' goal is to play a role in creating a more sustainable future for Indiana.

"Carl and I want to strengthen the state's reputation as a good place to live and work by helping communities, schools and businesses identify and implement cost-saving, sustainable, green initiatives and practices," she said. "Our work with our clients has led to a significant reduction in air pollution, an increased use of alternative fuel vehicles and almost $20 million in grant funding to implement other green, sustainable initiatives."

Lisek said Legacy Environmental Services has received support at the local, state and national level.

"Carl and I thank One Region for this recognition, as well as government officials and organizations for their support of Legacy Environmental Services and other organizations whose goal is to improve people's quality of life," Lisek said. "This recognition will strengthen our resolve to improve our community even more as we meet more goals with our colleagues, our collaborators and partners, and our local, state and federal government."

The Liseks previously had been recognized as a Lugar Energy Patriot for their work with South Shore Clean Cities Inc.
