Purdue Federal Credit Union celebrates 55 years of service

Founded in 1969, Purdue Federal Credit Union has been supporting its members for the last 55 years.

A local credit union that was created by members, Purdue Federal has achieved this important milestone through trusted relationships and a thriving culture.

“One of Purdue Federal’s key focuses is our culture,” said Jackie Hofman, senior vice president of human resources and marketing. “Decisions are made not only with our members’ best interests at heart but also while factoring in what is best for our team.”

Celebrating 55 years is no small feat, and the employees of Purdue Federal know that they have each other and their members to thank.

“Purdue Federal enjoys a culture of trust, transparency, and family,” said Hofman.

Purdue Federal was started by a group of Purdue University employees looking for a better way to provide financial solutions. Today, that same goal holds true. In fact, it is the culture and the mission that keep both members and employees at Purdue Federal.

“Purdue Federal has offered a sincere, caring, and compassionate workplace during my 40 years of employment,” said Vicki Sims, member engagement manager.

This welcoming environment begins with its members, but also extends to the staff.

“Management listens to staff with an open door policy. They’re constantly updating and offering benefits that meet the needs of staff,” said Sims.

Headquartered in West Lafayette, today Purdue Federal has over 100,000 members worldwide with local locations in Crown Point and La Porte, Indiana.

“Purdue Federal has been a part of the Northwest Indiana community since 2010 with the opening of our La Porte branch and more recently the opening of our Crown Point branch in 2019,” said Lindsey Kilty, community relations specialist.

A key part of Purdue Federal’s mission is to support its community with banking solutions and to also work with area not-for-profits and organizations.

“We have fully immersed ourselves into the culture and communities of Northwest Indiana,” said Kilty. “Through our partnerships with area nonprofits, community organizations/businesses, and local schools, we support the entire community.”

Instilling this culture of support into everything it does, Purdue Federal provides local sponsorships and encourages community outreach by giving employees paid volunteer time.

For many, this commitment to others is key to Purdue Federal’s many years of success.

“Purdue Federal was founded upon the credit union philosophy of ‘People Helping People’ and 55 years later, we still live by that,” said Carrie North, assistant vice president of marketing.

Purdue Federal doesn’t achieve this goal alone. It does this work alongside its members.

“Our goal is to be our members’ trusted financial partner for life. To accomplish that, we offer an array of products and services for every phase of life paired with low fees, competitive rates, and a robust digital banking platform,” said North.
