Purdue Calumet Water Institute Program Focuses on Water Sustainability on March 20, 2015

PUC-LogoThe Purdue University Calumet Water Institute will observe United Nations World Water Day by focusing on Water for Sustainable Development, at 9:30 a.m., Friday, March 20 on campus.

The two-hour program, held in YJean Chambers Hall on the third floor of the university’s Student Union & Library, will feature two speakers:

Indiana State Senator Ed Charbonneau, offering a legislative perspective on “How to Protect and Sustain Indiana’s Water Supplies”, and

U.S. Geological Survey, Great Lakes Science Center Research Ecologist Meredith B. Nevers, discussing, ”Swimmable, Drinkable, Fishable Urban Waters.”

“Water connects every aspect of human existence—from health to agriculture, from energy to industry and urbanization,” Purdue Calumet Professor, Water Institute Director and Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering George Nnanna said. “Water availability and water quality are human issues. The water for sustainable development theme of this year’s World Water Day underscores the ubiquitous nature of water.”
