Freshman Ryan Wells led the way for the Purdue University Calumet men’s golf team in the Peregrines’ seventh-place finish at Wednesday’s Olivet Nazarene Spring Invitational at Balmoral Woods Country Club.

Wells (St. John, Ind./Lake Central) finished the rainy event with a 18-hole score of 80 (+8), which tied him for seventh place overall out of the field of 59.

As a team, Peregrines shot a 348 (+60) to take seventh place out of 13 teams. University of St. Francis (Ill.) won the team title with a 311, host Olivet Nazarene was second with a 328 and Elmhurst College was third with a score of 331.

Patrick Mudd (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) came in second for the Purdue Calumet with a 83 and Tim Talley (Portage, Ind./Portage) was third with a 91. Teammates Michael Goodman (Dyer, Ind./Mount Carmel) and Paul Shane (Portage, Ind./Portage) each shot 94s to round out the Peregrines’ effort.

Elmhurst Colleges’ Kyle Brenkman and St. Francis’ Austin Gass shared medalist honors, each shooting 75s at 3-over-par.

Purdue North Central placed 11th overall as a team with a 385, led by tied scores of 84 from the Panthers’ Brad Rose and Zach Rose.

Purdue Calumet returns to action Friday, April 15, to kick off the two-day Bethel Pilot Invitational in South Bend, Ind.

Peregrine Baseball Hosts Three Game Series with Calumet St. Joseph this Weekend
The Purdue University Calumet baseball team will host a twinbill with Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent Calumet St. Joseph Saturday afternoon before hosting a single game with the Crimson Wave on Sunday.

The Peregrines (11-10, 6-6 CCAC) will face off with the Crimson Wave (2-33, 0-13 CCAC) starting at 11 a.m. (CT) at Dowling Park for the first of two games on Saturday. The single-game contest with CCSJ will also be at 11:00 a.m. Sunday morning.

Alberts Diamond Jewelers Field is located just east of Kennedy Avenue and north of Interstate 90/94. LAST TIME OUT
The Purdue University Calumet baseball team came away with the series victory with Monday’s split against league foe Purdue North Central at Hicks Field.

The Peregrines (11-10, 6-6 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference) defeated the Panthers (2-27, 1-10) 6-1 in Monday’s Game 1 before falling in Game 2, 3-0.

Purdue Calumet won the series opener in Hammond Sunday, 12-7.

Cristo finished 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBI to lead the Peregrines offensively in Game 1. Purdue North Central was held to just three hits, as Mikulich, Kyle Hernandez and Cody Haver all singled.

In the nightcap, Tyler Crussen (Valparaiso, Ind./Wheeler), Cody Dykema, and pinch-hitter Drake Larriuz (Lake Villa, Ill./Lakes Community) were the lone Peregrines to connect for hits, all singles.

Purdue Calumet starter Matt Sandoval (Highland, Ind./Bishop Noll) took the loss, scattering eight hits to go along with seven strikeouts in eight innings pitched.

PEREGRINE LEADERS
The Peregrines are led by Cody Dykema (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central), who is hitting .391, 27 hits, 18 runs, three home runs and 19 RBI. On the mound, the Peregrines are led by Matt Sandoval, who owns a 2.23 ERA, 1-2 record and 24 strikeouts in 32.1 innings pitched.

SCOUTING THE CRIMSON WAVE
Calumet St. Joseph is led offensively by Joseph Romero, who owns a .309 batting average, 16 RBI, 15 runs scored and a pair of home runs. On the mound, Enrique Zamora leads the Crimson Wave with a 1.86 ERA and 80 strikeouts in 48.1 innings pitched.

SERIES HISTORY
The Peregrines lead the Crimson Wave in the all-time series 2-1, with CCSJ winning the last matchup on Apr. 27 in the 2014-15 doubleheader. The Peregrines won the first meeting between the two teams in Apr. 26 last season, defeating the Crimson Wave 15-4 at Dowling Park. Micah Rooke led the Peregrines with a three-hit performance and four RBI while Anthony Spangler earned the win for the Black and Gold.
