Purdue Calumet Men’s Basketball hosts Holiday Hoop Jam This Weekend

PUC-PeregrinsThe Purdue University Calumet men's basketball team will play host to its Holiday Hoop Jam Tournament this weekend, welcoming Indiana Northwest, Judson University, and Grace Bible College to the Fitness and Recreation Center for a pair of contests.

The Peregrines (6-7) will take on Grace Bible College (9-8) in Friday's nightcap at 7 p.m., followed by Saturday's final contest against Indiana Northwest at approximately 3 p.m. Saturday, which is the department's Military Appreciation Day, will also feature a women's game, as the No. 11 Peregrines take on Clarke University Saturday at 1 p.m.

Sponsored by the Purdue Calumet Army ROTC and the Indiana National Guard, Saturday's contests featuring the Peregrines will offer fans free t-shirts, beanies, lanyards, and other giveaways, plus appearances by the ROTC Color Guard.

Admission to the tournament is $6 for adults and $4 for children ages 4-18. Purdue Calumet students with valid ID are free.

The Peregrines will look to bounce back from Wednesday's tough 85-74 league setback at Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference leader St. Francis (Ill.). Senior Noah Allen (Flora, Ind./Carroll) had one of his best scoring performances of his career in the loss, netting 25 points on 10 of 16 shooting including a career-best four makes from behind the 3-point line. Senior Aaron Davis (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) added 13 points, Ryan Rader (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) had 12 points and junior Duron Ivery (South Bend, Ind./Washington) had 11 points for the Peregrines.

SCOUTING PEREGRINES' OPPONENTS

GRACE BIBLE: The Tigers are coming off a 71-66 home victory over Spring Arbor Dec. 30. Grace Bible snapped a two-game losing streak with the victory, after back-to-back losses to Aquinas (78-59) and Huntington (78-66). The Tigers feature six players 6-5 or taller, with junior center Luke McKian leading the way at 6-foot-9. Grace Bible has three common opponents with the Peregrines this season: Kuyper (91-87 W in OT), Great Lakes Christian College (93-68 W) and UM-Dearborn (76-73 W). The two teams have not met under seventh-year Purdue Calumet head coach Dan Voudrie's tenure.

INDIANA NORTHWEST: The RedHawks have lost four straight, the latest a 65-50 loss at Indiana Kokomo Dec. 30. Darrius Davis leads IUN in scoring at 12.2 points per contest, Nate Flores adds 11.3 points per game and Devin Ellis scores 10.3 points per game. The RedHawks ranks in the Top 10 in NAIA Division II in four categories: total blocks (67), blocks per game (4.5), total rebound offense (610), and field goal percentage defense (39.4). DJ Teague stands ninth individually in total blocks with 27. The Peregrines have won four in a row over the RedHawks, including last year's season-opening 77-66 victory at the Fitness and Rec Center.
