Purdue Calumet Falls to Robert Morris, 3-1

PUC-Falls-to-Robert-Morris-3-1The Purdue University Calumet women’s soccer team fell to conference opponent Robert Morris Wednesday, 3-1, at Dowling Park’s Pepsi Field.

The Peregrines (1-6-1, 0-2) trailed,1-0 heading in to the break, as RMU (3-3-1, 2-0) notched the only goal for the half in the 15th minute.

Tianna Carrington received a pass from Becca Sparkman on a breakaway in the middle of the field and finished a shot right of the keeper to give the Eagles an early 1-0 lead.

The Peregrines used a strong offensive attack midway through the second half, evening the score at 1-1, after Kami Graber (Nashville, Ind./Brown County) connected on a long cross from Shelby Ross (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) in the 72nd minute.

RMU would take the lead back in the 77th minute after Sydney Rumple connected on a shot from just outside the 18-yard box to put the Eagles ahead 2-1.

Robert Morris would add an insurance goal one minute later on a goal by Abby Vandergriff to solidify the Eagles 3-1 victory.

Freshman keeper Kelley Sharp (Seymour, Ind./Seymour) recorded a career-high 10 saves in the setback.

The Peregrines will return to action this Saturday, Sept. 26, as they travel to Chicago, Ill. to face conference rival St. Xavier at 5:30 p.m.
