Purdue Calumet Edges Stritch 2-1 for 10th Win of 2015

PUC-Edges-Stritch-2-1-for-10th-Win-of-2015The Purdue University Calumet men’s soccer team defeated Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Cardinal Stritch University, 2-1, Wednesday afternoon at the Bavarian Soccer Club in Glendale, Wis.

The (RV) Peregrines (10-1-1, 6-1 CCAC) tied their win total from last year with today’s victory over the Wolves (6-6-1, 4-4), and picked up their fourth straight CCAC win in a row.

Senior forward Papa Otoo (Bradenton, Fla./Braden River) put the Peregrines on the board first, after finding the back of the net for the third time in two games on a pass from Carlos Ramirez (El Paso, Texas/Coronado)in the 29th minute.

After the break, Cardinal Strtich would even the match at 1-1 in the 60’ thanks to Ignacio Baeza who recorded his third goal this season on a ball from Peter Bannister.

In the 78th minute of play, Andres Ayala (San Antonio, Texas/Ronald Reagan) scored what ended up being the game-winning goal to help push the Peregrines past the Wolves, 2-1.

Ayala would tie teammate Otoo for most goals in a season for the Peregrines, (11), since the program was reinstated in 2012.

Keeper Miguel David (Spring Valley, Calif./Bonita Vista) notched a trio of saves for the Peregrines in the victory, improving his record to 7-0-1 on the season.

The Peregrines will return to action this Saturday, Oct. 17th, as they host (RV) Roosevelt at Dowling Park’s Pepsi Field. The matchup features the top two teams in the CCAC, with the Lakers holding the top spot of the conference. The men's match will follow the women's, with the estimated start time at 2:30 p.m.
