Newcomb has been an active participant in the Peregrines' media relations efforts the past three years, assisting with: the department's social media efforts; game-day duties including stat-keeping, promotional events, and public announcing; the creation of highlight and promotional videos; as well as production of game previews and recaps.

For his stellar work as a student assistant, Newcomb was named the Interim Sports Information Director in June 2014.

"We are so lucky to keep Jon on as our first graduate assistant in the sports information department," said Nicole Watkins, Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Information, Marketing and Event Management.

"He has been instrumental in our efforts to effectively market Peregrine Nation, our staff and student-athletes hold the utmost respect for Jon, and he will only continue to aid our department's growth. I'm looking forward to what our department can accomplish with Jon's help."

A native of Munster, Ind., Newcomb spent nearly two years as an intern for the Region Sports Network prior to his time at Purdue Calumet, producing live internet and radio broadcasts of northwest Indiana sports. Newcomb also actively serves as the Babe Ruth Senior League Travel Ball Director and coaches the Munster Hitmen 16/18 squad.

"I'm very fortunate that I can continue my education here at Purdue Calumet while also continuing to see the tremendous growth of the University," Newcomb said. "The people I have met here are like family to me and I couldn't see myself being anywhere else."

Newcomb graduated with a bachelor's degree in public relations from Purdue Calumet in May and will pursue a masters of business administration in his graduate work.
