Public Open House for New Franciscan Health Michigan City Hospital Includes Health Screenings for Adults, Entertainment for Kids

Franciscan-Health-Michigan-CIty-Open-House-2018Family-friendly activities will welcome the public to a glimpse of the future of healthcare at the new Franciscan Health Michigan City hospital during an open house celebration from noon to 4 PM on Saturday, Dec. 8.

Nadeau’s Ice Sculptures Inc. will perform live ice carving demonstrations each hour between noon and 3 p.m. Carvings will include Olaf from the movie “Frozen,” a Christmas present elf and an angel, along with a special surprise for kids. Inside, Bee Giggles Entertainment will provide balloon art twisting and airbrush body art.

Visitors can enjoy entertainment and refreshments as they tour the new Franciscan Health Michigan City, with 123 private, inpatient rooms and robust outpatient services with advanced technology centered on patient care. Along with getting a preview of the facility, visitors can gain insight into their own health through screenings, including body mass index, bone density, hepatitis C, blood glucose, pulse oximetry, balance/fall risk assessment and blood pressure.

Visitors will have a chance at door prizes and giveaways. Prizes include an Apple iPad, an Amazon Echo Spot, an Omron blood pressure monitor, a mountain bike and a grand prize drawing for an Orlando theme park vacation for a family of four.

The community event signals the completion of a $243 million construction project that began 2-1/2 years ago with a groundbreaking at the northwest corner of U.S. 421 and Interstate 94. It also marks the historic move from the 114-year-old legacy campus at 301 Homer Street, which is scheduled for January 2019.

Visitors can reach the new hospital at 3500 Franciscan Way from U.S. 421 (Franklin Street) by turning west on W. 400N (Kieffer Road) to Franciscan Way and turning left.
