Public Invited to Annual Salvation Army of Michigan City Thanksgiving Community Dinner

salvation-army-logoLts. William and Taylor Brutto have invited the public to join the Salvation Army in giving thanks at the Annual Salvation Army Thanksgiving Day Community Dinner. The Salvation Army will serve a delicious Thanksgiving Day dinner to hundreds of families on Thursday, November 27th from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Also, hot meals will be delivered to the elderly and disabled who are unable to leave their homes.

Volunteers are needed from 9-11 a.m. to set up, carve turkeys and hams and prepare take home dinners. Other volunteers are needed from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. to serve meals to diners and to deliver hot meals to shut-ins. A clean-up team of volunteers is needed to vacuum, sweep, mop, wash pots and clean kitchen following the dinner. The following cooked food items are needed: hams, turkeys, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, scalloped potatoes, green bean casseroles, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, vegetable sides, pumpkin pies and other desserts, Jell-O salads, fruit and vegetable salads, beverages, milk and dinner rolls.

All dishes must be cooked ahead of time. They should be brought to the Salvation Army, 1201 Franklin St., between 9-10 a.m. Thanksgiving Day, preferably in disposable aluminum containers.

If you cannot make it Thanksgiving Day, cooked food items may be dropped off from 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. Nov. 27. Call the Salvation Army office if you plan to donate cooked food so they will know if it is necessary to purchase food items.

Monetary donations to assist with the dinner can be mailed to: The Salvation Army, P.O. Box 14, Michigan City, IN 46361 or dropped off at the office, 1201 Franklin St., located just a block south of 11th street.
