Prep Sports Round-Up 09-05-14

MQT-girls-soccer-14-1Marquette 1, Hebron 0 (Girls Soccer)

The Blazers picked up their first win of the season behind a goal from Stacey Barron that was assisted by Michaela Jennings. Emmi Block had six saves and earned the shutout win in goal.

Katie Vaughan saved 11 shots for Hebron.

Valparaiso 3, La Porte 2 (Boys Tennis)

Andj Lehnen and Alex Yiankes (No. 1) and Juan Gil and Caleb Owens (No. 2) provided wins at doubles for host Valparaiso, who prevailed in the Duneland Athletic Conference match.

Mike Varda (No. 1) and Bobby Barden (No. 2) had singles wins for La Porte, while Valpo’s Eric Yiankes won at No. 3 singles.

Valparaiso won the junior varsity event, 10-1.

Lake Central 165, Valparaiso 176 (Girls Golf)

A 38 from medalist Jennifer Gough was not enough for Valparaiso in the Duneland Athletic Conference dual meet at Palmira Golf Course (Par 37) on Wednesday.

Alexis Miestowski shot a 39 to lead the Indians (4-1), and was followed by teammates Allie Onest (41), Julia Beggs (42), Kylie Shoemake (43) and Brooke Scartozzi (48).

For the Vikings (2-2), Gough was followed by teammates Brooke Fullenkamp (41), Elise Lee (48), Lauren Caputo (49) and Ema GIlliana (58).

In the junior varsity match, Lake Central shot a 241 as a team while Lindsey Debber had a 65 as the lone Valpo golfer.

South Bend Clay 3, Marquette 2 (Boys Soccer)

Tommy Wilson and Jacob Stadler netted goals for Marquette, who fell in nonconference action on Thursday. John Roder had two saves for the Blazers.

Lake Central 25, 25, 25; Portage 10, 17, 17 (Volleyball)

Portage fell to 6-2, 1-2 DAC despite five kills and four digs from Sydney Wilkins. Lauren Winicky (8 assists, 5 digs) and Alexa Ciesielski (4 kills, 2 blocks) also contributed for Portage.

Hanover Central 25, 25, 25; Kouts 19, 16, 18 (Volleyball)

Savanna Zakman had 10 kills to lead Hanover Central on Thursday. Emma DeYoung (6 kills) and Itzel Lagunas (4 kills), Taylor Wywra (17 digs) and Samantha Gugliemo (27 assists) also contributed in the Wildcats sweep.

Marquette 4, South Bend Riley 1 (Boys Tennis)

Hunter Moldenhauer (No. 1), Nate Shinn (No. 2) and Patrick McDonnell (No. 3) picked up singles wins for Marquette on Wednesday.

MIDDLE SCHOOLS

Portage Willowcreek 40, La Porte Boston 22 (Eighth Grade Football)

Host Boston had a pair of touchdowns from Skylar Querry, including a 50-yard rushing score in the first half at Kesling Field. Mason Shreves also found Jacob Tuttle for a 30-yard passing score in a highlight for Boston as Sebastian Schnick had three tackles and Coal Maule an onside kick recovery.

Boston will visit Plymouth next Wednesday.
