Postal Workers Gear Up to “Stamp Out Hunger”

With a Local Food Drive on Saturday, May 12

The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) union, in conjunction with the United States Postal Service, the AFL-CIO, and local United Ways will be conducting a one-day food drive nationwide on Saturday, May 12. Postal workers throughout LaPorte County along with Federal retirees, the United Way of LaPorte County and food pantry volunteers will collect, sort and distribute non-perishable food to replenish local food banks in the LaPorte area.

Postal customers may place donations by their mailboxes on May 12; city and rural letter carriers will collect the donations while completing the mail deliveries on that date. There will also be a designated drop box inside the front lobby of the LaPorte and Michigan City Post Office.

Among items most needed by food banks are canned meats and tuna, peanut butter, canned soups and chili, hamburger helper, pasta, cereals, crackers, as well as, hygiene and sanitary items. Customers are asked not to leave out-of-date food, anything in glass containers, or food that is perishable. Help us help our community during this Fourteenth Annual “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive.
