Porter Health Care System Welcomes New Director of the Medical Surgical Departments

Linda_SteinhilberPorter Health Care System has named Linda Steinhilber, RN, as the hospital’s new Director of the Medical Surgical Departments.

Steinhilber comes to Porter with more than 18 years in nursing leadership within Northwest Indiana and Texas. She also spent about four years as a travel nurse working at hospitals across the country.

“I have been exposed to many processes and practices as a previous traveler and in the Houston Medical Center. I look forward to sharing my experience with the Medical /Surgical staff and working together to provide outstanding patient care at Porter,” she says.

A native of Northwest Indiana, she previously worked for Porter in the ICU and the IMCU units and is excited to return to her roots.

“It’s wonderful to be back. I’ve really missed the community atmosphere and being in a smaller hospital setting after working in larger medical centers,” shares Steinhilber, who most recently worked at Houston Medical Center.

Some of Steinhilber’s accomplishments include initiating a new RN intern program, maintaining a RN retention of 99 percent in ICU and improving patient, physician and nursing satisfaction scores.

One of her first goals at Porter focuses on welcoming new nurses. “I want to help them assimilate and feel comfortable in their positions,” she says.

Steinhilber received her bachelor’s in nursing at Purdue University and her master’s at Western Governors University.
