PNW’s Michko named All-Midwest Region First Team at DP

Purdue University Northwest junior Selena Michko (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central) has been named first-team All-Midwest Region at designated player by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA), in a vote by the Midwest Region's sports information directors. Michko is listed among 14 first-team All-Midwest Region honorees who advance to the national ballot for All-America consideration. She is the first PNW softball player in school history to be selected D2CCA All-Midwest Region.

Michko started all 44 games for a PNW squad that set a new program record for wins in the Division II era. The Dyer native led the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and set a new team single-season record with 14 home runs. She ranked 13th nationally in home runs per game at the end of the regular season and 21st in total home runs, and was the only GLIAC hitter to post three multi-home run games.

A first-team All-GLIAC selection, Michko ranked among the league leaders in several hitting categories including slugging percentage (.734/1st), extra-base hits (22/2nd), batting average (.374/5th), RBIs (37/7th) and hits (52/8th). She also set a new team record for most RBIs in a game (6) and tied the single-game record for most hits (4) by a Pride hitter.

The PNW softball team made its second straight trip to the GLIAC Softball Tournament Semifinals and finished with a 27-17 overall record under second-year head coach Tristan Zink.
