The Purdue University Northwest Department of Engineering Technology is offering three summer enrichment programs for high school students on the Hammond Campus in June.
These week-long programs are open to all high school students and recent graduates. They are designed to introduce participants to specific topics and projects based in robotics and automation, electrical engineering technology and mechanical engineering technology, using state-of-the-art laboratory equipment and software.
The three scheduled programs are as follows:
Robotics and Automation Summer Program The Robotics and Automation Summer Program will introduce participants to laboratory facilities equipped with the latest versions of industrial robots, programmable logic controllers, real world high-speed packaging machines, human machine interfaces, and industrial grade software tools for animation and high speed learning.
Program sessions will meet from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., June 5-9. The $49 registration fee includes all supplies, lunch each day and a t-shirt. The registration deadline is May 19.
Electrical Engineering Technology Summer Program Participants in the hands-on Electrical Engineering Technology Summer Program will build their own embedded controlled computer systems and work together to assemble and test an electric bicycle. Students will utilize laboratory facilities equipped with measurement and simulation tools, along with software and design tools and will keep all electronic hardware and software they developed.
Program sessions will meet from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., June 12 through 16. The $49 registration fee includes all supplies, lunch each day and a t-shirt. The registration deadline is May 26.
Mechanical Engineering Technology Program The Mechanical Engineering Technology Program is a project-based, interactive learning program designed to challenge participants, who will use CAD software to engineer designs. Attendees also will create prototypes using 3D printers and other state-of-the-art lab technology.
Additionally, students will tour a local company to get a real-world glimpse of engineering and manufacturing in action.
Program sessions will meet daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., June 19 through 22. The $49 registration fee includes lunch, supplies, a t-shirt, and transportation to and from the local company tour. The registration deadline is June 2.
