PNW Celebrates First Homecoming with Athletics & Activities for Students, Alumni, Community Members

Purdue-Northwest-colorPurdue University Northwest celebrates its first Homecoming Nov. 1-5, with a PNW women’s volleyball game, a men’s and women’s basketball tournament and a variety of family-friendly activities on the Hammond and Westville campuses.

All events are open to all PNW students, Purdue University Calumet and Purdue University North Central alumni, PNW faculty and staff, and community members.

The events include:

Volleyball Senior Night The women’s volleyball team honors its graduating seniors when it hosts Trinity Christian College at 7 p.m., Tuesday (11/1) on the Hammond Campus in the Fitness & Recreation Center.

A Homecoming Extravaganza will follow the match, featuring PNW faculty and staff challenging PNW students in a strictly for fun volleyball match. The evening also includes student relay races and a Hungry Hippos competition.

Basketball Tip-Off Tournament Basketball will be the focus Friday, Nov. 4 and Saturday, Nov. 5 when the PNW men’s and women’s basketball teams host the first James B. Dworkin Tip-Off Classic Tournament, played on the Westville Campus in the H.D. Kesling Gymnasium of the James B. Dworkin Student Services and Activities Complex.

The PNW women play Cornerstone at 4 p.m., Nov. 4. The PNW men take on Taylor University at 6 p.m.

During halftime of the men’s game, the 2016 homecoming king and queen, as elected by PNW students, will be crowned.

Immediately following the game, PNW students will celebrate homecoming with a bonfire.

Tailgate Nov. 5 A tailgate event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Nov. 5 in the James B. Dworkin Student Services and Activities Complex parking lot. PNW students, Purdue University Calumet and Purdue University North Central alumni who show their student or alumni ID cards will be treated to free food, while supplies last.

Community members are invited to enjoy family-friendly activities that include corn-hole and children’s games.

At 2 p.m. the PNW women’s basketball team faces Grace College, and at 4 p.m. the men’s team will battle Davenport University. Fans are asked to bring at least one canned food item for donation to a local food pantry.

Homecoming events are sponsored by PNW’s Office of Student Life, Athletics, Housing and Residential Education, Dean of Students and Alumni Affairs.
