pnw-softball-2-27-18PNW Softball Splits with Cincinnati Christian Sunday After dropping the first game to Cincinnati Christian, 9-7, the Purdue University Northwest softball team answered back with a 12-3 victory to cap off a series split with the Eagles Sunday afternoon.

The Pride (2-2) struck fire at the plate in the fourth and fifth innings of Game 2, to propel them over the Eagles (3-2), scoring 9 of its 12 runs in the final two innings.

Jonluke Passett (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandberg) and Patrick Mudd (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) picked up the victory at No. 3 doubles, defeating LSS’s Stephen Prica and Miles Munro, 8-2. Later in the day, Passett took the victory at No. 5 singles against LSS’s Mates Fonai in straight sets, 7-5, 4-1.

At No. 1 doubles, Brooke Foltz (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City) and Stella Evers (Aurich, Germany) fell to LSS’s Tara Harvey and Macarena Bielsa, 8-3. Carolina Yepez (Guayaquil, Ecudador) and Cynthia Basu-Chavez (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville) lost at No. 2 doubles to LSS’s Laura Roberts and Jenay Andrews, 8-3.

PNW Softball Splits with Georgetown College is Season Opener http://www.pnwathletics.com/softball/news/2016-17/3651/pnw-softball-splits-with-georgetown-college-in-season-opener/ A go-ahead home run in the top of the seventh inning by Taylor Kotzo proved to be the deciding factor in Game 2 against Georgetown College, completing the series split Saturday afternoon in the Pride’s first games of the season.

PNW (1-1) defeated the Tigers (8-4), in the second game, 4-3, but dropped the opening contest 9-6.

The Cougars (4-10) defeated the Pride (2-2), 7-2, at Match Point Tennis and Fitness Club on Saturday.

The Pride have now won six matches in a row to continue their impressive start this season.

PNW senior Darien Thompson (Anderson, Ind./Anderson) led the Pride with a game-high 32 points and classmate Cassidy Deno (Otterbein, Ind./Benton Central) added 16 points and seven boards in the loss.
