The Purdue North Central Women's Association will take its spring bus trip to Chicago on Saturday, April 6 to visit the Art Institute of Chicago Picasso exhibit celebrating the 100-year relationship between Picasso and Chicago. There will be time for lunch and shopping. Men and young adults are welcome to attend.
Cost of the entire trip, including lunch, is $85 for PNCWA members and guests; $95 for others. Priority, pre-paid reservations from PNCWA members will be accepted until March 1. Following March 1, reservations are open to the public.
The day will start at 7 a.m. with bagels, toppings and donuts on the PNC campus in the Schwarz Hall Vending Room. A luxury motor coach with restroom will depart campus by 8 a.m. to travel to Chicago. The bus will leave Chicago at about 4:45 p.m. and return to campus by 6:15 p.m. Participants should be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes.
The group will make its traditional stop at Trader Joe's where guests will have the opportunity to shop for items to bring home to enjoy.
Once at the Art Institute, the group will view a 45-minute private auditorium slide show, "Picasso and Chicago," led by a museum employee.
The museum has brought together more than 250 of the finest examples of Picasso's paintings, sculpture, prints, drawings and ceramics from private collections in the city, as well as from the museum's collection, for the first large-scale Picasso exhibition organized by the museum in almost 30 years.
According to the Art Institute website, the exhibit "charts the full gamut of Picasso's artistic career and chronicles the growth of Chicago as a place for modern art and the storied moments of overlap that have contributed to the vibrant interest in Picasso from 1913 to today. Adding to the celebration of this eminent artist and his connection to our city are special installations throughout the galleries."
The group will have lunch together at a Fresh Tortilla Wrap Buffet in the Millennium Park Room. Wrap choices are: roast beef with caramelized onions and horseradish cream; roast vegetables with honey balsamic dressing and boursin cheese or sliced turkey with watercress and cranberry relish.
After lunch, participants may take a self-paced audio tour of the Picasso and Chicago exhibit and use the rest of the afternoon to see more of the museum or enjoy Chicago before the bus departs for PNC.
