PNC Presents Artist Catherine Reed Exhibit

Catherine-Reed-Explosion-of-ColorThe Purdue University North Central Odyssey Arts and Cultural Events Series will present the exhibit ""Explosion of Color" featuring the work of artist Catherine Reed today through May 9 in the first floor, north study area of the PNC Technology Building. It is free and open to the public.

Building hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m. during the school semester; otherwise the building is closed on Sunday.

Reed's art features mixed media on canvas. Most pieces are for sale."Vibrant colors are a hallmark of my work," explains Reed. "I love to see color, texture and pattern come together in one piece. It is through the use of molding paste and very large putty knives that I am able to create free flowing and unpredictable results."

Reed was born in Southern Indiana and earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from Indiana University. For the past 23 years she has worked in management for two Fortune Five energy companies in the areas of marketing, sales and consulting.

Art has always been her passion, but she put that on hold for many years as she navigated through life's experiences. After a sequence of unexplainable events, a chance meeting with an independent art professional and encouragement from a well-known Southern artist, Catherine renewed her interest in painting.

"God led me to this place.a place where there is freedom to create and express all of the energy, emotion and passion that I feel for life. Every new painting begins with a prayer and a clearing of the mind," she said.

She has exhibited at various shows and galleries in Louisville, Ky and Atlanta.

Today, she and her husband reside in Shelby County, Ky.
