Purdue University North Central Community Health Nursing students will present a health fair for all LaPorte High School students on Tuesday March 18. This motivational fair will address issues related to safety and risk reduction.
The PNC Nursing students are presenting the fair under the direction of Peggy Rose, PNC assistant professor of Nursing and in cooperation with LaPorte High School Assistant Principal Chris Alber; Educator Christine Rosenbaum; Micki Webb, MSW from the La Porte County Drug Free Partnership and Joseph Bunch, MSW, counselor with the LaPorte County Dorothy S. Crowley Juvenile Services Center.
The fair will also include a variety of vendors and booths that will address the real-world issues of safety and risk that high school students face or may encounter. Students will have an opportunity to visit the interactive booths and displays, pick up information, ask questions and participate in the learning activities and demonstrations.
A variety of gift certificates and awards will be raffled as door prizes for all participating students.
"We are grateful to have another opportunity to partner with both Micki Webb and Joseph Bunch," said Peggy Rose. "The outreach efforts of both the LaPorte Juvenile Center and the Drug Free Partnership demonstrate how extending beyond the traditional walls of an office to reach out into the community creates opportunities for collaboration and service. Schools represent a significant force in meeting the complex and challenging health care needs of adolescents today. Health fairs meet these needs."
